FAQs
What is a nature-based preschool?
Coinciding with the emergence of Forest Preschools in Scandinavia in the 1960’s, nature-based preschools have been drawing interest in the U.S. since then. Led by thoughtful and engaging experiences in nature, children learn in relationship with the natural world around them. Nature-based preschools are typically defined as licensed early childhood programs which spend at least 30% of the day outdoors, center around nature as a driving theme in curriculum, and infuse nature into the indoor spaces and curriculum.
Potty training?
Children should be potty trained before beginning at Little Fern.
How many children are in each cohort?
We maintain a low teacher:student ratio, and keep our cohort at six students.
Meals and snacks?
A hearty, vegetarian morning snack will be provided daily to children. There will be a weekly opportunity for children to participate in the making of our class snack.
Lunches should be brought from home daily.
Clothing recommendations?
Because we are a nature-based school and spend time outside daily, rain or shine, children and families should be prepared with layers and waterproof gear. Additionally, we have a class set of rain suits that children can utilize during the school day.
